Went for a Dam bike Ride this morning. Got up at six and hit the road. Followed a street sweeper up the Parkway for a short while.
A little further up the road I saw this streetlight. With a hawk on it. Not a UFO in sight.
And yet I continued.
But even BEFORE the street sweeper and the hawk, back in the Construction Zone of which I complain so bitterly, so often, I had a repetition of a thought I had yesterday.
What happened yesterday was, you remember the Big Walk (It was five miles, not six.) I went on. At one point I pushed the crosswalk button, waited for permission to cross, and did so. This was a pretty wide street, five lanes, plus two turning lanes, plus the blocked-off Construction lane. Now what was odd, in the oncoming right-turn lane, the first vehicle waited for me to walk all that way across the Parkway before they made their right. And they had about five cars behind them. It took me about twenty seconds to get across the road. But no one honked, no one yelled. Everyone waited patiently for me to walk across the road. And I'm thinking, four or five cars could have made that turn before I even got NEAR their side of the street.
And then it occurs to me, whenever I'm biking through the Construction Zone (taking the lane) and there are cars, they just go around me. No honking, no yelling, no hassling.
And I hear a LOT about cyclists getting honked, yelled at, and hassled. And hit.
But not here.
So maybe I'm lucky. Or maybe La Mesa drivers are nicer.
At least, in the Construction Zone.
Down by Gillespie Field I saw this old aircraft. It reminded me of the Sky King show from my youth, but upon looking at the Sky King website, I see he had totally different aircraft. Ahh, memory!
In researching, I find this is probably a Beech C-45. Certainly an oldtimer, but very classy looking!
That Sky King, I don't recall him even having a car, he was always flying around that that darn plane, chasing the bad guys.
Not too many people on the bike path. Filled up the water bottle, ate a granola bar, headed up Jackson Drive hill. Climbed it in the 2/2, I mean, the 42/26 combination. Was breathing scarily hard, but I made it, only stopping for a stop light. Natch!
Before I got to the lake, I observed this dog-walker and a car-driver plotting something.
Blocking the lane! Just outrageous!
Lot of joggers out at the lake, and it was warm and sunny. I tootled around the lake slowly, and headed for home.
A bit of a UNUSUAL squeak/noise when the rear brake was applied caused me to put Jamis up on the stand. I'm not sure what the noise was, but it looks like the rear pads need replacing.
And it looks like someone should do a better job of alignment when do it, too!
Boy, I need a manicure!
The Jamis odometer is very close to 21 miles for the day.
Later!
