Yesterday I filled up (well, put thirty dollars in the tank, only 3/4 full. Yikes!) the vehicle with gas and drove over to Mission Trails Park to do a little geocaching. I went around the Visitors Center trail and the Oak Grove trail. I found five out of six of the caches I looked for, and got a bit of hiking in, to boot. These are pretty easy trails, just right for someone wearing tennis shoes, as it were, with those springy old-guy shoe laces.
The hardest part of the hike would have been coming up this road, but I was going down, so it was all right!

This oak tree seemed very Tolkien-esque. I don't care for oak trees, as a rule, but this one is ok.

The rising gorge* of Mission Trails Regional Park.

I saw a blue wood pecker and a squirrel (see below), besides the many hikers, their dogs, and a few mountain bike riders.

After that I drove to the library, which was now closed, returned a couple of books, then I went over to the other library, which was still open, and checked a couple books out.
I ATMed, then drove home.
It's nice having a radio to listen to while traveling.
Now today, I rode the Schwinn over to Jackson Dr. to look for a cache I thought I had figured out. Turned out I had not. I rode over to Lake Murray and found a cache there. I headed over to the lake perimeter road to look for some more caches. I walked the bike down a short dirt hill trail to the road. I must have surprised an old guy walking his large dog. He said something humorous to the dog, I said I was out walking my bike this morning, which he chuckled at.
Saw the blond chick.
I looked for a cache, but then my battery warning came on, so I headed home. But not before looking for the cache near the entrance to Lake Murray. One has to look for this one when the security guys are not there, as I hear one of them gets very crabby. But I did not find it, although my gloves now overwhelmingly smell of purple sage. But I am old rider. And that is why I don't care how much it is snowing in you-know-where, I'm freezing right here in high 50s!
There seem to be 51.43 miles this week, all on the Schwinn. I haven't touched the Jamis project. And it's gonna rain next week.
*You might have to be logged into Google to read this. Not that I've read it, mind you!
P.S. Anybody know where I can get a quart of so of glycerin real cheap?
