HowManyDogs

Rode out to Santee this sunny morning, and then back again.

It was around 49.0 49.0° F in beautiful La Mesa when I took off at six-fifteen. I had the arm warmers on, under the blue jacket. The arm warmers tend to end up being wrist warmers after a while. Do they make arm-garters?

I rode up to deserted Grossmont College to search for four geocaches. One I found in a minute. One was on the wrong side of a locked gate. One I just could NOT find, after AT LEAST a half-hour of searching. With a police car parked across the parking lot. An EMPTY police car, as it turned out, but I did not know that for quite a few minutes.

And the last cache, some enormous guy decided he was gonna sit on a bench and watch me. Who does that on Sunday morning? I didn't find the cache, but as I was leaving I had another idea from the clue. But, I didn't feel comfortable going back. Another time!

I went down the Mesa Road dirt road to Santee, saying "Hi!" to serveral hikers and dog walkers along the way. It was chilly, around 44
° F. I had YET ANOTHER idea about that darned cache at the trailhead, but it didn't pan out.

I checked another cache I had an further idea about, but no luck there, either. I decided I needed coffee and a donut at Mary's. So, I stopped there for a coffee and TWO plain donuts. And as I was eating them, I casually sorta looked around for the cache there, like I've done serveral times before. And I found it! Yah!

I rode back home via Fanita, then down Lake Murray, etc. I followed a pack of cyclists up Baltimore who were going even slower than I. There's a club I could get behind!

The trusty Specialized bike computer displayed 95.14 miles on the trip odometer for the week. The odometer, for the record, is at 8,104 miles since the last reset, some years ago.

Did I mention my helmet mirror broke off? I kept looking up there, it felt rather odd.

Yesterday I stopped off at Trek to look at gloves. Yikes, them's expensive! I guess I'll have to go to Performance, see what is on sale.

Have you ever tried the Mechanix Gloves, available at auto parts stores? I find that, unless you are one of those who needs a lot of padding in a glove, that they are actually a bit more comfy than most bike gloves. And, they retail for around $20.00 (or less, if they are on sale).
