That Flat Tire

I oiled the chain on Jamis today. I think what I need is a new chain, though. And some new sprockets. I swore when I bought that thing I would replace the chain every year, but I have not. Now I shall pay the price!

Took off the front wheel on the Schwinn. Although the tire was flat, of course, I noticed the tire didn't appear to be entirely on the rim?

In fact, it seems to be rotted!



You can see the bead quite clearly! Yikes!

The tube had an interesting "puncture" pattern. I say puncture, because I can not think of another word.



Maybe "blow out"?

So I put another tire on, a used tire I had laying about, and put another tube in, a used tube (Schrader valve) I had laying about. One with patches on it. So it is pumped up now, and we shall see if it hold some air pressure overnight.

You'll remember this was the wheel with the Presta/Schrader adapter experiment. Which I never even rode on!
