Due to some silly marathon, the 8 was slowed to a crawl past the 805. I FINALLY got off the freeway, headed BACK on a frontage road, got on the 163 and headed north to the 52, then west. Parked at the Park'n'Ride on Gilman, unloaded the bike, and pedaled over to the path.
I rode along the path, talking to several people who were waiting for the train. It hadn't come yet, it was an hour late. Typical! But it was working out for me! I rode to the other end of the bike path, no M.! Turned around, rode back north.
About half-way I noticed I hadn't put the odometer back on, it was still in my pocket! So I didn't get much credit. Finally found M., back at the other end of path, where I started at.
This pile of ties would make a nice track side addition to the model railroad. A strong smell of creosote would add an olfactory component.

Saw this trestle/bridge, too. Might make a cute little project someday, for the model railroad.

I'm wondering what this thing is. Some sort of detector? It's only on the one track.

You wanted a close-up?

Train's coming!!

Wave bye-bye!
The train was headed by the ex-Santa Fe 3751 steam locomotive (4-8-4) that pulled the last steam passenger train between Los Angeles and San Diego in August 1953. This was an excursion run by the Central Coast Railway Club. Note the dome car. Haven't seen one of those in a couple of, ah, decades?
I don't think the steam locomotive was actually pulling the train, as there wasn't very much smoke, although it WAS a down grade, sort of. I think the diesel "helper' was doing most of the work!
Sixty miles for the week, not including the parts where I didn't have the odometer in place!
Later!
