Here we see the awful notching job done by the ever-helpful Steve the L, wielding the might jig saw! You can't see it, but there are two washers between the lock and the wood space it to clear the metal plate, which we see in the picture below.
You can see I drilled the hole for the lock too low. That's why I had to make a special metal plate out of a computer tape drive mount. I should have purchased a lock with longer barrel, too, then I wouldn't have had to notch the drawer at all!
Here is a professionally installed drawer lock, with high-zoot wood spacers.
