Was reading all the blogs I read this evening. Came to the Large Fella On A Bike . I thought it was going to be another one of his horrible experiences. He runs into the awfullest people when out riding. But he turned the whole thing around. I will try to learn a lesson from him.
No riding today, but lots of sleeping. Tried reading the Atlantic Monthly but the articles are too long. Tried reading Funny Times but the print is too small. Didn't EVEN try The Reader, it's WAY too small.
Maybe I'll go for a ride tomorrow.

Friday
Rode the bike to work today.
Told Steve the L. that Eddy was gonna come of from Belgium and kick his, let us say, "butt", if he didn't take those mustache bars off the Merckx.
Of course, he already expressed reservations about them...
I told the lunch group that I was waiting for someone to volunteer to change out the headseat on the Schwinn. No volunteers, but Steve the M. said he had a headset laying around somewhere in his warehouse, I mean garage, that I could have.
On the trip home I pulled up rather suddenly to a crosswalk at a red light. A guy carrying a cat said, "Slow down there, turbo."
I'm thinking, in my paranoid manner, "You talkin' to me, or you talking to the cat? You talkin' to me, mister, I'm gonna have to kick your," let us say, "butt!"
Re-learned the difference between embedded objects and floating objects in Appleworks today!
So far, have managed to suck 30 miles out of the bike this week.

Thursday Driving
I pretty much covered the driving part of today in the Rantings blog.
I looked for that pizza in the road this morning on the way to work, but it is totally gone! Huh!
Steve the L. brought his Eddy Merckx (Which I always want to put a "y" in.) today. He let me ride it around the parking lot. I STILL am not convinced mustache bars are the way to go...
What a pretty bike, was my first thought!
He went with one of those new=fangled heasets, or some kind of adapter, or something, and so the beautiful stem and Campy brake levers are now spares.
That Campy derailleur sure looks retro!
I love the white seat with copper rivets!
There are a couple more pics on the Zooomr site, plus the big versions of these images, which DO look much better! Just click an image and wander about my flickr site!
And in case you are wondering, yes, I'm going to ride tomorrow, baring the unforseen!

Roadkill
Rode the bike Monday. Temp. was in the low 40s, but still seem chilly. I've been wearing my old purple jacket for a week. I thought it would breath better than the Screaming Yellow Jacket. Eh, not so much. But it DOES have a multitude of pockets a big plus. If only it was Screaming Yellow and the liner wasn't rotting out!
I went to the Med. Lab. after work to do my labs for next week. I was waiting in line and some guy brush against my helmet mirror and broke it. He apologized. When I was finished and loading up the bike (Putting the tool bag, pump, & pannier back on, and unlocking it) I dropped the helmet and COMPLETELY broke of the mirror. Not too worry, in my box-o-bike junk I have a couple helmet mirrors I purchased and never used. I scored some double-stick security hardware tape at work (Ssshh, don't tell anyone!), a stuck a new/used mirror. It's a different size mirror, but it's working fine, even though the mount is much smaller and is designed for a foam helmet (Remember those?). Speaking of retro, I saw a lady bicycling on the sidewalk the other morning wearing a Skidlid!
I drove yesterday, as I HAD to go grocery shopping.
Today I rode, again. Saw a pizza in the road. Not smushed. Perfect. Cooked. Cold. The five second rule doesn't apply, though. So sad. Will try to get a picture tomorrow.
Had coffee at Starbucks again, after a demi-lap of Lake Murray. Well, probably "partial" lap would be a better description. Heck, it was from Baltimore to the front gate, OK???
Anyway, we had to wait for the coffee to brew, so the guy brought it OUT to the patio for us, and ON THE HOUSE!
I been hearing a lot of static about Starbucks, and you KNOW I'm as cheap as the day is long, but I'm impressed.
I have to drive tomorrow, as I have to attend a training session in the other half of San Diego. Friday I will bike again, unless....
I also have to call the Radiation guy back tomorrow to set up my radiation schedule, as it were. That's the "unless".

Short Week
Communted two times last week, due to various things. Went for a nice ride around Lake Murray Saturday with a guy from work, even a little off-pavement! w00t! Saw a couple swans. How come they are not there when I've got the camera? We cruised over to Starbucks aftwards for a cuppa joe. Very civilized!
Sunday went for a little ride for 3/4 of an hour, just to process a little carbo and push up the miles a bit. Then went to D.Z. Akins and pigged out!
Must oil the chain this afternoon, recharge the lights, and re-look at the brake shoe alightment. No appointments all next week, so maybe I can get some miles in!
I made a document in Open Office with all my bicycle blog URL's on it, then save it as an HTML document. I opened it in Firefox and bookmarked it. Now I can just click on that bookmark, and then click on a blog URL to visit it, then hit the back button to return to the document. Forth and back. Forth and back. Now I don't have to manuver through the bookmarks folders to visit all the blogs I'm following. And I don't get fake hits clicking the links on MY blogs. I'm too lazy to figure out RSS and all that stuff. Anyway, it works for me!
Weekly Mileage:
Schwinn -- 0
Jamis -- 34.85

It's warming up
Ran across this link while looking for something else The George W. Bush "Stay The Course" Bicycle Game at The Specious Report website.
It's political!
It's bicycle-related, sort of!
Rode the bike a couple times this week. It looks like it was about 38 degrees when I took off this morning at six or so. Wore the red silk balaclava (Which I always misspell!) to scare small children with, but not encounter any. Somewhat warmer this afternoon. Did not see any of the predicted "rain" that Mr. Coleman mentioned last night on the television. P'raps I misheard him...
Drove a couple times this week, including tomorrow when I have to forth-and-back the doctor's office a couple times. This is quite a month, doctor-wise, I have five appointments that I can think of, and there will probably be another one next week to discuss the results of tomorrow, and to plan a, well, plan, of action. A Plan Of Action! W00t!

Ok, NOW it's cold!
It was 31.7 on Ms. Indoor-Outdoor Thermometer this morning at 10 till 7 A.M. I ate some generic bran flakes, suited up, and hit the road.
There was a little frost on the plants near Costco.
You can click on it, but it's not any better
I was tootling along, thinking how nice it is to bike on Sunday morning. It's quiet, not hot, and there are few cars to agravate me. So I'm approaching the light at Bus Ct. (Is that the best they could come up with?) on Fletcher Parkway, I've got the green, some lady pulls up the the (red) light, decides she don't need to wait, and procedes to go. How rude! Wasn't dangerous to me, I was about 25 feet away not having QUITE entered the intersection, but still. And the sight-lines weren't all the great for her, she couldn't see if a car was coming from the East. Some people!
It was interesting watching the Average Speed flucuate up and down. It was near 11 at the top of Swallow Drive, and I managed to get it up to 13.00 (12.99 really) at the 1 hour mark. It dropped WAY down after the Jackson Drive Hill, but I had it back up to 12.6 when I stopped in my driveway. It dropped to 12.57 by the time I walked it into the garage. I swear.
I stopped on the Father Junipero Serra Trail to take a picture of some rock climbers at the base of the rock climb.
Click on it. I dares yah!
Lots of people at Lake Murray walking the path. All bundled up, except for one young fellow on a bicycle wearing an undershirt. Brrrr!!
Weekly Mileage:
Schwinn -- Zip
Jamis -- Around 62 miles, I should really write these things down!

Not So Cold
Did a Dam Ride this morning. Not nearly as cold as I thought it would be. Cold is when my face hurts. My face did not hurt. But it was chilly. Mister Weather Underground says it was around 42 degrees in Glorious Santee when I passed through there.
I caught a couple of ladies biking along on North Marshall towards the Field (See the Dam Ride link at Bikely.com if you are lost). I stayed politely behind them until they turned right on to Cuyamaca at the light. I had to wait through a light change to go straight and then right to get to the bike path. I saw them over at the intersection of Prospect and Cuyamaca waiting to turn left. I zoomed down the bike path and turned on to Prospect ahead of them. I stayed a few hundred yards ahead all the way down Prospect, until they turned off. I wonder if they recognized me from behind, and wondered how I got ahead of them?
I tinkled the bell pleasantly at the several walkers on the Dam Path. No sign of any frost. I was thinking of doing a photo essay to be tentatively titled "Poop On The Path". Perhaps another day...
Cinderella seems to have lost a shoe on the Jackson Drive hill.
Went sort of around the lake, lots of people out running, walking, being pulled by dogs, even riding bicycles. Even with the chilly weather. It's Saturday! It's San Diego!
At Baltimore and Lake Murray I was waiting for the light, a guy next to me in the turn lane was waiting to turn right, a lady yaking on a cell phone (But NOT in a SUV, surprisingly) failed to stop and kissed his bumper with the interesting sound that an empty liter bottle of soda makes when you smash it. I gave her the BIG STARE. No apparent damage, and they didn't even get out of their cars. And she didn't even stop talking...
And eventually I got home.
I see I have 38.47 miles for the, no, wait, that was the Max Speed, let us see, ah, I have 40.8 miles for the weeks so far. I remember the Avg. Speed was 12.3 when I was in Santee and now it is 12.01, so the Jackson Drive Hill must have clobbered the Average. I guess so! I was in granny the whole time!
A fun link--A slide show of funny signs encountered while bicycling, from Blueberry Rides.
Is Zooomr working yet?
No.
Well, later then!!
LATER--Yeah, Zooomr is working!!
Went out to earl the chain this evening, found the tire soft, discovered this little piece of wire.
Fixed it, also adjusted the rear brakes AGAIN, and tilted the tool bag upwards a little.

Big Rain & Snow Friday
Yah, EXTREME temperatures, snow on Mt Helix--NOT!!
I drove today, like a sap, because I TRUSTED you-know-who, John "Mr. Weather Channel" Coleman.
Well, not really, he wasn't all THAT adamant, I guess I just wimped out.
So, I've got about 20 miles total, maybe for the week, having driven for three days (Hey, I had to get a CT scan in Mira Mesa one day!!), and biked two.
It's SUPPOSED to get REALLY cold tonight. I believe it, it's 46 now and it is only six o'clock in the evening, and the cloud cover is gone!
So I'll maybe go for a bike ride tomorrow morning...
I'm reading Bobke II, courtesy of the ever-friendly Steve L., pictures of who's fixie you've seen previously, I believe.

Sunday Summary
Did not ride the bike this weekend.
I WAS driving the truck today, with the boy. We were sitting at a stoplight near Jack In The Box and a blue Dodge truck in front of us starting slowing rolling backwards towards us. I honked the horn once. He kept rolling. I honked again, then held the horn button down. He slowly rolled back into us, kissing the bumpers. Then he rolled forwards again. He never looked back, never turned his head, didn't even look in the mirror. The boy asked me if I had a tire iron handy. The light changed and we followed him for a while. Took a picture of the license plate, just in case. Some old guy, like 70s or so. Wierd.
Weekly Mileage:
Schwinn -- Zero miles
Jamis -- 33.61 miles
