Actually, no bagel. Enstein's changed the day of some special coffee, so I don't get a free bagel from my boss today. I THINK it will be tomorrow. I hope!
It was chilly this morning. A older guy (older than ME!) in a rumbling big pick up truck was stopped beside me at light this morning. He shouted out, "Aren't your legs cold?" To which I replied, "No, they're pretty hairy, but my ears are freezing!"
Well, it made MY morning!
LATER:
Ran across this page on how to measure bicycle chain wear with a dial caliper. I don't HAVE a dial caliper, hint hint, but I thought it was very cool and precise.

At Last It's Friday!
Rode the bike today, did I mention I LOVE the new headlight mount?
Here's a special treat, a pic of Steve the L's Redline 925 fixie!

Click on the image to visit my flickr.com photostream and see a larger version.
You can also see several other pictures of the bike, and even a picture of Steve the L.!!!

Light up my world
Rode the bike to work today. LOVE the new headlight mount! It's higher up and aimed more downwardish, so I can see those potholes BEFORE I hit them. Of course I will have to do without the lighting up of trees and such, as the poorly-aimed headlight did before...

Here's the whole kaboom lit up.

I also made a movie of the strobe 'n headlight in the dark, but it didn't turn out very well. So I erased it. You're welcome!

Nothing to report, haven't ridden in three days, haven't left the living space in 3 days!
Didn't work on the Schwinn.
Didn't recharge the batteries on the BIG LIGHT.
Didn't earl the chain.
Didn't finish the light re-mount project. (By the way, what ARE the rules for hypens?)
Fed the rats, I mean, birds, Saturday morning.
I think I'm driving this week.

Garbage Voting Day
Rode the Jamis to work today. Took a picture of the moon in the west. Looked even better yesterday.

Discussed the Schwinn situation with Mr. Steve M.
Voted this afternoon. I was probably the only person voting who had their fly open. I, of course, discovered this after I got home. I wondered why the ladies were so amused...
It was also Garbage Day to-day. Mission accomplished!

Monday Evening
Fixed the flat on the Jamis (I HOPE!), using the last of of Chinese c-ment. The hole was rather near another patch, so I'm thinking maybe the tire needs to be replaced. It is getting a little threadbare. I wasn't paying total attention when I took the tube out so I didn't notice EXACTLY its position, but there is definitely a little hole in the tire, in a likely area, that could be the culprit. So I think a tire is in order. Someday.
I got the upper head set thingie off the Schwinn with my LARGEST CHANNELOCKS, cutting new threads in the head set thingie. It is TOTALLY BOOGERED now! I think what happened was:
I got the upper head set thingie off the Schwinn with my LARGEST CHANNELOCKS, cutting new threads in the head set thingie. It is TOTALLY BOOGERED now! I think what happened was:
A. The headset was improperly installed at the shop several years ago over boogered threads,or, MUCH more likely,
B. The washer with the tab on it got jammed in the groove and mangled the threads a bit.The threads DO seem a big mangled down towards the middle of the threaded stem on the fork. And my wife thinks I should work in a bike shop! Yeh, as the mangler!
Flat Monday
Well, I have reaped the fruits, as it were, of not riding this weekend, or even going out to the garage to look at the bikes, or even going outside most of the weekend.
Flat tire on the Jamis I find this Monday.
And of course the Schwinn is QUITE out of commission.
So I drove.
Which means I had to put gas in the vehicle.
So there goes my allowance.
But it DID give me an opportunity to air up the tyres, finally!
And returning the book I read this weekend, "Catch Me If You Can" to the library more easily.
I DID get fifty-some miles on the Jamis last week communting.

Totally Buggered
I worked up the courage to tackle the headset on the Schwinn, you know, because of the squeaks I meantioned, or rather, didn't.
Now it is TOTALLY buggered up! One of the wrenches slipped and rounded the flats on the top race in the locknut loosening phase. I put the wheel back on so as to have something brace the fork with, knee-wise. After getting the locknut and assorted spacers off, I proceeded to unscrew the top race. No go. A few turns up the steering tube it pretty much jammed, especially with the rounded flats. Probably the steering tube has been distorted by tighting the bolt/wedge on the stem.
Now the flats are TOTALLY buggered!
I guess I will have to saw off the stem, buy a NEW FORK, buy a NEW HEADSET, and either talk Steve. the L. into showing me how (and loaning some tools), or paying a shop to do it.
I found a connecting rod from an automobile engine. I shall have to take a picture of THAT, it is also TOTALLY buggered. But I didn't do THAT!
And later, here it is!
