Did the Dam Ride again. Mostly sunny, got a little warm climbing the Jackson Drive hill.
Must have been 10 or 15 people out walking their dogs in Fletcher Hills. I don't know, just seemed wierd.
In fact, there were lots of people out walking EVERYWHERE. Padre Dam bike path, Lake Murray, they wuz EVERYWHERE!

Did a little 20 mile jaunt around the lake and running a few errands, like returning a library book, mailing the bills and picking up another carton of cigs at the cig store. Funny how everyone in the cig store looks, well, like they're a million years old. Couldn't be their cigarette smoking, no!
Of course, that didn't add up to twenty so I did the usual forth and back on the "Lake" streets east of Lake Murray Blvd.
I wonder if it is going to rain tomorrow?
I made a little leather pouch the other day to hold the chain tool that I carry in the Schwinn tool bag. Now the tool pouch can roll tighter and the leather protects the tool bag from the pointy parts of the chain tool.
Found this at Big Guy On A Bicycle
"...I can finally know just how far I've been riding my mountain bike. It turns out that the loop that I've long thought was about 8 miles is actually just under 7 miles. I will now be applying the John B. distance rule which states that you always round up to the nearest 10 mile increment. Thus, we rode 10 miles today, instead of 8 or just under 7. I think I like that better. Better still, if I ride 10.2 miles, I've actually ridden 20 miles. I think my mileage will receive a big boost next year."
I like his thinking!!

Rode the Dam Ride again today. Aren't you tired of hearing that? I giggle when I write it!
Got passed BIG TIME (again!) on the Jackson hill by a chubby-looking guy on a very nice yellow bike that I forget the brand of.
Saw a kid on a unicycle at Lake Murray riding on the dirt. Very cool, I should try that!
Saw the blond chick running. And that guy, the "funner runner". They sure must put on the miles!
The Schwinn had a flat when I went out to the garage today, a carpet tack, so I rode the Jamis. The stupid seat post is definitely slipping. I need someone to "mike" the seat post and the tube, I guess, too see if the correct one is installed.
LATE ADDITION: Saw this on Fark! Snake breaks cyclist's fall Sounds like something that would happen to me!
OH, AND I FORGOT: Down in El Cajohn I saw a flatbead truck pulling a rather long trailer. He made a right turn into a factory, the weird thing was the truck was signaling right, but the trailer was signaling LEFT! My good deed, I pulled in and told him about it.

I guess last weeks mileage total ended up being:
Schwinn -- 30 miles
Jamis -- 0 miles
It looks like this years total mileage will be about 150 miles less than last years 2,446.
Rode the bike to the Dam today. I thought it would be foggy at Padre Dam, but it blew away while I was riding through Santee. But the ride was pretty cool anyway. Wore the electric yellow jacket with arm warmers. Got passed at Fletcher and Amaya by the same lady who I didn't mention Friday passed me. Like I was sitting still. Actually, I WAS sitting still.
Added a counter last night to the blog, so I can see all the visitors I'm getting from Granny Buttons. Knowing full well that that ship has passed, as it were...
Bought a extremely cheap adjustable wrench at Target for the Schwinn tool kit. Only 3 bucks! And worth its weight in wobbly jaws!
Need to think of a place to go for the semi-annual New Year's Day Ride. Maybe around the bay, that's always nice.

Rode the Dam Ride today, once again, no surprise. Saw a dead hawk along the side of Mission Gorge Road in Santee. Looked like it had been run over. I wonder what killed it? I think it was a Cooper's Hawik, but I see that a Sharp-shinned Hawk looks very similiar. I also see a least one Cooper's Hawk has been found with West Nile virus. Dead birds are supposed to be reported to the County of San Diego Vector Control, but I don't think they want me calling them up from another city and telling them I saw it on the side of the road somewhere. What do YOU think?
It was nice and cloudy and cool, so I didn't have to put sunscreen on. Yah, I know, I should have put in on my face at least. But I didn't. Lots of people at the lake walking around. Saw BOTH the blond chicks, and a strange guy with a camo jacket that was riding very fast.
Put 30 miles on the Schwinn today, so kinda made up for not riding all week.

TRickster Coyote
Forced self do the Dam ride. Removed a chunk of steel the size of my hand from the roadway on Mission Gorge Road. My good turn for the day!
Saw a coyote on the Mission Trails/Dam Gorge Bike/Ped. Path. He looked at me and IMMEDIATELY afterwards I got a flat tire. My only explanation is it was Trickster Coyote!
Rode up the Jackson Dr. hill. Removed a large kitchen knife from the bike lane. Threw it on the sidewalk for kids to play with. My bad turn for the day, and now my fingerprints are now on it!
Weekly Mileage:
Schwinn -- 21.51
Jamis -- 30.27

Got my Official British Waterways Towpath Bicycling Permit laminated today! Now all I have to do is finagle a way to get me and the bike to the U.K.!

Finally got in a ride today, rode to the dam. Nice and sunny and warm. Didn't wear any sunscreen, so may contract skin cancer.
Average speed was 12.38 MPH according to my handy calculator I constructed using Open Office, since I am unable to do the simple math involved...

Not much going on this week. Only got to ride to work on Monday, as I got called to Federal jury dooty and of course got assigned a trial.
IF there was decent bike parking downtown maybe I could ride there, but alas there doesnt' seem to be.
I wonder if someone could make a profit with a bike parking lot, charge maybe a doller a day.
Bought a geniune Rema tube patch kit at San Diego Bicycle today for $3.99. Silly person that I am, I tried to refuse the five doller bill he gave me for change, thinking I had paid with a five, forgetting the reason I bought the patch kit was to get change for a ten...
